Did you know Rummy is one of the most commonly played card games in the world? Various versions of the game are popular in different parts of the world under different names. Both the online and offline version of the game have gained immense popularity. Playing the game for fun is something is one thing but if you are looking to win cash prizes, then you certainly need the right combination of skills and tricks.
Tips and Tricks on How to Play Rummy to Win
You may know how to play Rummy but your friends and opponents will have a hard time scoring against you if you follow some useful tips and tricks while playing the game, such as:
• If your opponent declares his/her hand, the only thing that can save you from getting a sum of all points of all the cards in your hand is a pure sequence. So, the first and foremost thing you should do is form a pure sequence.
• Always keep a keen eye on the cards being picked and discarded by your opponent(s). This will give you a fair idea of the cards that you should keep away from them and those that you can discard safely.
• If you hoard high point cards like the Ace, King, Queen and Jack to form a set or a sequence with them, you run a high risk of getting higher penalty points if your opponent declares before you do. So, discarding high value cards as soon as possible is the key.
• Keeping versatile middle cards helps. For example, an 8 of any suite could make a combination with 7 and 9 or with 9 and 10. But an Ace can be paired up with only with 2 and 3.
• Always remember a sequence can have 4 cards. Many people are under the misconception that a sequence can have only 3 cards.
• Keeping consecutive cards instead of alternate cards should be preferred. For instance, if you have 5 and 7 of the same suite and are waiting for a 6, you might end up picking a 4. At such times, discard the 7 and give yourself the option of making either a 3,4,5 sequence or a 4,5,6 one. This will benefit you in two ways. The first is that you can make a pure sequence if you get a 3 or 6 of the same suite. The second one is that you may trick your opponent into discarding a 6, if he possesses it.
• Tricking the opponent into discarding the cards you want is called fishing. A typical example could be that you want to make a set of three 5s and you have a 4 or a 6, discarding the 4 or 6 could make your opponent discard a 5.
These tricks could benefit you while playing the game in more ways than one, even if you already know how to play Rummy.
